Koalas on the Mid North Coast need a Great Koala National Park!

It’s official: koalas have now been declared endangered at a state and federal level. 

Late on a Friday, right before the federal election, the NSW Threatened Species Scientific Committee quietly made the announcement downgrading their conservation status.

This terrible news comes as no surprise to those who have watched koala populations dwindling. For years our government has allowed logging to continue in key koala habitat, ravaging the precious few populations that survived the Black Summer bushfires.

The unsustainable logging of koala habitat is a national disgrace, and it is on track to push this beloved and iconic species to extinction by 2050. It has to stop.

The best way to save koalas is to protect their habitat. 

The mid-north coast is home to swathes of beautiful, miraculously unburnt bushland and of one of the state’s largest remaining koala populations. We need to urgently protect it by creating the Great Koala National Park.
