Strengthen Laws to Protect Koala Habitat Now!

Strengthen Laws to Protect Koala Habitat Now!

The biggest threat to koalas is the ongoing loss and fragmentation of their habitat. While the NSW Premier and Environment Minister talk a big game by promising to double koala numbers by 2050, they’ve just introduced new laws that actually make it easier to clear koala habitat.

With around two-thirds of koala habitat found on private land it’s vital that we have laws in place that will protect what’s left to ensure our remaining koalas can survive.

But the new koala SEPP actually exempts 80% of the land that should be protected by explicitly excluding rural, agricultural and forestry lands.

We can’t let them get away with this. Tell the Premier and Planning Minister it just isn’t good enough!
